    maple oat cookies

I’ve been wanting to eat them delicious cookies! Since I’m on my long maternity leave (baby, can you come out now?), I figure that I should bake instead. I scoured online for the perfect (by perfect, I mean the simplest) recipe. I found one on Martha Stewart’s website (you can find it here). It looked pretty easy. All I needed to do next was to get the ingredients and that’s what I did.

    baby essentials (maybe not)

After spending close to 6 hours at Baby Fair last April, it finally dawned on me that babies are expensive. Thus far, we’ve spent close to $6k which includes pre-delivery medical expenses and baby essentials. We’ve been advised to have at least $10k in savings on the day of delivery (gulps). Don’t worry, I have kept all the expenses in a spreadsheet. When my baby turns 18, I will share the document with him (together with the pregnancy sticks that I peed on when I found out I’m pregnant with him).

It is normal to be clueless about what to buy since there are so many brands out there to choose from. I mean, do you go for single electric breast pump or double? Which diaper brand to go for? How organic do you want to go when caring for your baby? With all that uncertainties, we just W H A C K E D and hope for the best. Sharing with you some of the things we’ve bought so far:

    Breast pumps

Some of the brands that I came across are Medela, Philips and Cimilre. Not caring how one brand differs from another (I mean, as long as they pump milk out of boobies that should be okay… right), I went ahead with Philips because it looks compact and portable enough for me not to look like I am carrying a fridge in the future. I decided to buy the single electric breast pump because it makes more sense (to me, at least). I envisioned my baby to be latching on one breast and I could pump on the other – I could be wrong (I will figure it out as I go along). Anyway, I got my single electric breast pump set at $199 with tons of bottles and a couple of pacifiers… so, why not.

life lately & a surprise baby shower

I have not been updating my life here because typing is hard work – what pregnancy does to you! Jokes aside, fatigue from pregnancy is real so is pregnancy brain. All I could muster after a day’s work is lying down on my bed doing absolutely nothing. Believe me, I counted down to my maternity leave since week 10. Initially, I wanted to start my maternity leave at week 38 but, nah that so not happening! That being said, tomorrow is my last day in the office. I cannot be any more proud that I made it this far – being pregnant and working full time can be quite a feat.

    the second trimester’s kicks

The second trimester is definitely a treat so far. My mood is lighter, my appetite is growing and I’m pretty convinced that I have some kind of pregnancy glow going on (or that could possibly be slaps of foundation on my face). Whatever it is, I’m feeling much better than the first trimester. Alhamdulillah 🙂

the peeing on the stick episode

I don’t quite remember the feeling when I found out I am pregnant. I remember Luq’s reaction though… mine, not so much. I remember walking into Watsons in Paragon one Thursday afternoon and got a pregnancy kit for the heck of it. To be honest, I didn’t feel or had the slightest instinct that I am pregnant. Maybe, the occassional bouts of gagging that I was experiencing on some afternoons. Anyway, I got two sticks (you gotta be doubly sure) and was planning on peeing on them when I got home.

“I’m gonna pee now… you wanna watch?”
    “No, just pee”

    life after the wedding

How time flies. It’s been almost 3 months since we got married – no one is dead yet, kidding. Getting into the routine of things took us some time. Well, we know that it isn’t going to be easy, but we also know that it won’t be that hard either. Just take some getting used to (at least, that’s what we tell each other all the time).

Things like, the doubling pile of laundry, the constant yakking coming from me about leaving hair/dust on the wet toilet floor and the wet sink (I still don’t get it!). These are just some of it. Also – Luq freaked out at how OCD I am about our room – just our room. There was once, I looked conflicted before leaving our room and he asked why. So I said, “the dresser is really messy… you didn’t place your ring box properly”. I guess you still learn new things about your partner every day.
